Molat Island

Molat is one of the north Dalmatian islands situated in the archipelago of Zadar.

The island has numerous bays, channels, beaches and caverns. There are forests and macchia spreaded on the whole island, that are giving to it an effect of an everlasting green island.

For the first time in history Molat was mentioned in the 7th century, and his name comes from the latin word mellitus, which means "as honey". Since ages Molat is known for the manufacture of honey, and it's usually been called the island of milk and honey.

In the middle of the 11th century the island comes under the tutelage of the benedict monastery of St. Crisogonus, and from 1409. was under the ward of the Most Serene Republic of Venice. In the inner part of the island are situated the places of Molat, Zapuntel and Brgulje.

One daily ferry line connects Molat with Zadar and makes of it even a better and more intimate turist destination. The most known place is for sure Brgulje. In Brgulje are located two restaurants and two stores, and are also located the most beautiful beaches on the whole island.

In few days You can explore the entire island in few hours of walking, and it's a real paradise for the nature lovers.

The habitants of the island deals with agriculture, sheep breeding and fishing. The mostly low northeast coast is very developed and has numerous bays of which the most known is the Jazi bay. Jazi is an east harbor of the place Molat and it's exponed to north and north-east winds.

On the island are located private houses with apartments, and every gusets that is staying on the island will find an accomodation of it's own taste, concidering that the offer is truly wide : apartments, rooms, weekend houses.

Molat captures with his beauty as You approach to it from the sea, and it's sure that if You come once You will always get back here, on and on.
