The town of Drvenik (population of 350 people) lies within two inlets (Donja vala and Gornja vala) 24km southeast of Makarska. The townspeople mostly occupy themselves with fishing, tending olive-groves and tourism. Its afforested inlets and natural sources of drinking water give this area a certain charm.

From Drvenik guests can take a ferry over to the town of Sucuraj on the island of Hvar. The town of Drvenik also has many restaurants which offer Dalmatian cuisine, a post office, disco club, markets and boat rentals.

It is a historical place which was first mentioned in the 13th century. Mediaeval headstones were built into the foundation of the gothic church of St. Juraj which later became baroque. One of the more important monuments-fortifications on the Makarska coastline is fort Drvenik which sits on a summit overlooking the town and it was built in the 17th century.
